Como o Bitcoin é utilizado?
Bitcoin mudou muito desde a sua criação. Ele começou como um sistema simples de dinheiro digital. Hoje, é um ativo robusto, com diversas aplicações no mundo real.
A seguir, uma lista não exaustiva de como o Bitcoin é utilizado atualmente ao redor do mundo.
Para proteger patrimônio no longo prazo
O Bitcoin consolidou-se como uma “reserva de valor”. Isso significa que investidores o utilizam cada vez mais para proteger riqueza no longo prazo. Exemplos incluem:
- Proteção patrimonial para investidores: Com o crescimento dos ETPs (Exchange-Traded Products) e ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) de Bitcoin, um número crescente de investidores utiliza o bitcoin como proteção contra o aumento da dívida pública, tratando-o de forma semelhante a uma versão digital do ouro.
- Poupança em economias instáveis: Em países como Argentina ou Líbano, pessoas utilizam bitcoin para escapar da hiperinflação. Como sua oferta é fixa, ele ajuda a preservar o poder de compra quando a moeda local perde valor.
- Reservas governamentais: Governos passaram a adotar o bitcoin como ativo estratégico. Os Estados Unidos iniciaram uma Reserva Estratégica de Bitcoin em 2025¹. Diversos estados americanos estão aprovando ou discutindo legislações semelhantes.
- Tesourarias corporativas: Grandes empresas, como Tesla² e Strategy³, mantêm bitcoin em seus balanços. Atualmente, a demanda institucional cresce três vezes mais rápido do que a oferta de novos bitcoins criados⁴.
Para facilitar o envio de ajuda humanitária
Organizações sem fins lucrativos, como a Human Rights Foundation⁵ e a Save the Children⁶, aceitam Bitcoin para viabilizar doações transparentes e sem fronteiras. Em momentos de crise ou em ambientes com restrições bancárias, o Bitcoin permite que instituições entreguem ajuda de forma rápida e eficiente. Como todas as transações são registradas em um livro público, reduz-se o risco de desvio de recursos.
Para estabilizar redes de energia renovável por meio da mineração flexível
A mineração de Bitcoin tem sido cada vez mais utilizada como carga energética flexível para melhorar a viabilidade econômica de projetos de energia renovável, especialmente em regiões com excesso frequente de oferta.
Fontes como energia eólica e solar frequentemente geram eletricidade quando a demanda está baixa, forçando operadores de rede a reduzir a produção ou vender energia a preços muito baixos.
Mineradores de Bitcoin podem absorver esse excedente ao operar em períodos de menor demanda, funcionando como compradores consistentes de energia que, de outra forma, seria desperdiçada. Como as operações de mineração podem ser desligadas em segundos, elas também conseguem reduzir rapidamente o consumo em momentos de estresse na rede, participando de programas de resposta à demanda, como os utilizados no ERCOT.
Essa flexibilidade beneficia projetos renováveis de duas formas: aumenta a receita mínima obtida com a geração excedente e reduz a volatilidade das receitas, facilitando o financiamento dos projetos. Como resultado, novos projetos de energia eólica e solar podem se tornar mais viáveis, especialmente em regiões remotas com capacidade limitada de transmissão.
