Bitcoin ist das erste dezentrale digitale Geldnetzwerk und die nach Marktkapitalisierung größte Kryptowährung.
Im Oktober 2008 stellte eine anonyme Person oder Gruppe unter dem Pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto Bitcoin der Welt vor. Seit dem Start im Januar 2009 hat Bitcoin unser Verständnis von Geld und finanziellen Vermögenswerten grundlegend verändert.
Der Begriff „Bitcoin“ bezeichnet sowohl den digitalen Vermögenswert (den Bitcoin) als auch das globale, gemeinsam genutzte Computersystem - das Netzwerk, genannt Blockchain - auf dem er basiert. BTC ist die Abkürzung für die Münze.
Als digitaler Vermögenswert ermöglicht Bitcoin jedem mit Internetzugang, Zahlungen direkt an andere Menschen weltweit zu senden. Durch das Wegfallen des „Mittelsmanns“, üblicherweise einer traditionellen Bank, hat das Netzwerk unsere Nutzung von Geld revolutioniert.
Entscheidend ist: Keine einzelne Regierung oder Bank besitzt oder kontrolliert Bitcoin.
Es funktioniert auf einer globalen Blockchain, die für alle einsehbar ist. Zentralbehörden werden durch ein öffentliches Verzeichnis aller Transaktionen ersetzt. Das Ergebnis ist ein dezentrales Finanzsystem, das Zensur, Manipulation und Abschaltungen widersteht. Es bietet ein transparentes und offenes Netzwerk: Jeder kann darauf zugreifen, und niemand kann die Aufzeichnungen verändern.
Diese einzigartigen Eigenschaften verschaffen Bitcoin Vorteile, die traditionelle Fiat-Währungen wie Dollar oder Euro nicht bieten können. Dazu gehören ein festgelegtes Maximalangebot und Schutz vor Entwertung - entscheidende Faktoren für unseren Investment-Case von Bitcoin.
